Remotype Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-10-02
Remotype (Android and iOS) is made by Custavia (https://custavia.com). The free Remotype Host app for Mac, Windows and Linux is covered here too.
The short version
- What you type, click and say never reaches us. It goes from your phone to your own computer or TV, and nowhere else.
- The app: no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking.
- This website counts visits and clicks with analytics we host ourselves — no cookies, nothing that identifies you. Details below.
- Two small exceptions, both about the free trial and purchases: when you start the 14-day trial, the app sends us an anonymous device ID so the trial can't be restarted by reinstalling; and if you use Premium, a purchase-checking service confirms what you've unlocked. Both are explained below.
What happens to your typing and pointer
Remotype turns your phone into a keyboard, trackpad and remote.
- Over Bluetooth (Android), your keystrokes and pointer movements go straight to the computer or TV you paired with, exactly like a hardware Bluetooth keyboard.
- Over Wi-Fi (iPhone and Android), they go to the Remotype Host app on your own computer, on your own network. The connection is paired with a code shown on your computer and encrypted.
- As a TV remote, the app talks directly to your Android TV or Google TV on your own network.
The same goes for everything else the app sends to your computer — text you dictate, passwords you type from Secrets, your clipboard, and the view of your screen. None of it is sent to Custavia or to anyone else, and none of it is stored by us.
Remotype Host, the computer app, makes no internet connections at all. It has no updater and no telemetry, and its source code is public at github.com/Custavia/remotype-host.
The free trial: an anonymous device ID
When you tap to start the 14-day trial, the app sends our trial server one thing that identifies your phone: an anonymous device ID (on Android, the ID Android gives this app; on iPhone, a random ID the app creates). It also sends which platform you're on.
- Why: so each phone gets one trial. Without it, reinstalling the app would restart the trial.
- What we keep: not the ID itself, but a salted, one-way hash of it, with the date your trial started and the platform. No name, no email, no account and no location.
- How long: for as long as we offer the trial, because that's what stops it being restarted. The records are also backed up daily.
- On iPhone, the random ID is kept in the phone's keychain so it survives reinstalling — which is the point. It stays on that phone only and is never synced to iCloud.
- Deletion: because we only hold a hash, we can't tell which record is yours from your name or email. If you want your record removed, write to us and we'll help — removing it means that phone could start a trial again.
After that one check, the trial works offline.
Purchases
Remotype's keyboard and trackpad are free. Premium is sold through Apple's App Store or Google Play, which handle the payment — Remotype never sees your card, name or billing details.
To know what you've unlocked, the app uses RevenueCat, a purchase-checking service. It receives an anonymous ID it creates for the app, the purchase receipts the store issues, and basic details such as the app version, the operating system and your language. The app checks your status with RevenueCat when it starts, whether or not you've bought anything. RevenueCat is used only for this — no advertising and no tracking. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Other network use
When it starts, the app also downloads a small settings file from our website. Nothing is sent with that request beyond what any web request carries.
The feedback form on this website
If you send us a message with the feedback form on remotype.custavia.com, we receive what you wrote, any images you attach, your email address if you add one, the page you sent it from, and the kind of browser, device and country the request came from. We don't keep your IP address with it.
- Where it goes: into a private channel in our team's Discord, where the people who make Remotype read it. Discord stores it on our behalf.
- Images: we rename them and send each one to the same channel. A screenshot can show more than you meant to — crop out anything you don't want us to see before you attach it.
- What we use it for: to read your feedback and, if you gave an email, to reply. We don't add you to a mailing list or share it with anyone.
- Deletion: write to us and we'll delete your messages.
The form is optional and is not part of the app; the app never sends us feedback on its own.
This website: visit counts
remotype.custavia.com counts visits with Umami, open-source analytics that we run on our own server. It is not Google Analytics, and no ad network or other company receives it. Separately, our web host, Cloudflare, measures how fast pages load (Cloudflare Web Analytics, also without cookies).
- What it records: the page you open, the site that sent you there, which buttons and links you click (for example a download or a store badge), which sections you scroll to and how long the page stays open, plus your browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language, and the country, region and city your connection comes from.
- What it does not do: it sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device. It does not keep your IP address — only the location worked out from it. Visits are counted with a code that changes every month, so you can't be followed over time or across other sites.
- Why: to see which pages and features people look for, and where the site confuses them.
- Kept in your browser, never sent to us: whether you dismissed the notice about this or opted out, and the site's own conveniences — your light or dark choice, a minimised Remotoon, and an unsent feedback draft.
- The app itself has none of this; see “What Remotype does not do”.
To stop your visits being counted, block scripts from this site, or use the switch that appears here when scripts are on.
What Remotype does not do
- No analytics, telemetry or crash reporting in the app
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers
- No accounts, sign-ins or profiles
- No selling or sharing of data with anyone
- Your keystrokes, pointer movements, voice, passwords and screen never leave your own devices
Permissions the app asks for
- Bluetooth and nearby devices (Android) — to act as a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
- Local network (iPhone) — to find and connect to Remotype Host and your TV on your own Wi-Fi.
- Notifications (Android) — one ongoing notification while connected, so Android keeps the connection alive.
- Microphone and speech recognition — only if you use Dictation. Your speech is turned into words on your phone; only the words are sent, and only to your computer.
- Face ID, Touch ID or fingerprint — only if you use Secrets, to unlock a saved password before it's typed. Your biometric data never leaves the phone's own security hardware and is never seen by the app.
Stored on your phone
Your settings, the computers and TVs you've connected to, your macros and your Secrets are stored on your phone and are never sent to us. Secrets are kept in the phone's secure storage. Uninstalling the app removes them — except the iPhone trial ID described above.
Children
Remotype is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them. The only things we hold are the anonymous trial record, any feedback someone chooses to send, and this website's anonymous visit counts, all described above.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
